Iowa three-bedroom farmhouse offered for free; must be moved

A three-bedroom farmhouse in rural Solon is being offered for free to anyone who can move the home by this summer.
The exterior of the more than 100-year-old home is in great shape, according to the owners, with siding, windows and the roof replaced after Iowa’s 2020 hurricane-strength derecho. The foundation size is 28-by-26 feet, and the home has one full bath on the upper floor and one half-bath on the main floor.
Posting it on Facebook Marketplace in mid-February 2026, the couple decided to see if someone could move the two-story home, rather than having it demolished, noting that the interior does need some “TLC.”
While the home is being offered for free, moving a house can cost upwards of $150,000 for the move itself, new foundation, electrical systems and other upgrades.
Save CR Heritage moved the “Frankie House” in southeast Cedar Rapids and is currently raising funds to move the J.E. Halvorson House. See photos here.
Anyone with the financial capacity and a vacant lot to move the home, please leave a message. Serious inquiries will be passed along to the current owners.
